Elf Hill Accepted in Magical Anthology

Aline Kaplan’s short story, “Elf Hill,” which was reviewed earlier by SpaceCrafts members, will be published this year.  Aline heard yesterday that “Elf Hill” has been accepted in an anthology of short stories entitled, Magical: An Anthology  of Fantasy, Fairy Tales, and Other Magical Fiction for Adults.

Magical: An Anthology of Fantasy Fairy Tales and Other Magical Fiction for Adults, Kelly Ann JacobsonShe was notified of her story’s acceptance by the anthology’s editor, Kelly Ann Jacobson, author of Cairo in White and the Zaniyah Trilogy.

In putting together the anthology, the editors were looking  for “pieces of exceptional magical fiction written in a literary style that are as entertaining and spellbinding as stories for children but are written at an adult level.”

A guest judge will choose one winner from a blind reading of the book, and that winner will receive a check for $150 and two contributor copies. Two runners-up will receive $25 and one contributor copy, and all other writers included in the book will receive one free contributor copy. –

Janet Reads at Newburyport Literary Festival

NBPTJanet Johnston will be speaking at the Newburyport Literary Festival, which is being held on April 25 and 26 in various locations around the scenic waterfront town of Newburyport, MA.

Janet is joining an outstanding group of authors that includes Andre Dubus III, Hallie Ephron, Wally Lamb, Richard Russo and Claire Messud.

On the topic of speculative fiction, she will be reading from her novella, “Lune Bleue,” which was published in October of 2013 by Analog, the magazine of science fiction and fact. In this story, astronauts on a routine tour of a moon-base get much more than they bargained for.
